Andrew Zhao
Engineering at the University of Michigan
About Me
My name is Andrew Zhao, and I am an Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor minoring in both Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. I am deeply interested in the design and analysis of mechanisms and mechanical systems.
I've had a lifelong passion for engineering, and this has been reflected throughout the various projects I have been involved with. I interned at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems as an Aerostructures Design Engineering Intern in Summer 2023, where I led the design and analysis of multiple mechanical and structural components of next-generation UAVs.
At the University of Michigan, I was lead structures engineer of the Michigan Aeronautical Science Association (MASA), in which I led the development of all structural components of a 20-foot tall liquid bipropellant rocket, which launched in May 2023 as the most powerful collegiate liquid rocket ever launched. I also do extensive research into morphable aerial drones as with the Intelligent Robotics and Autonomy Lab (iRaL) at the University of Michigan, and I was nominated by the university to be one of Aviation Week's 20 Twenties.
I have extensive experience in mechanical design, CAD software, and structural analysis, and I have dived further into embedded systems and firmware/software development. Feel free to take a look at my resume and portfolio below to see what I have been up to!
